Around 1500 years ago, a Vaniyo named Devchand came to Kutch for business. He was a devotee of Ashapura maa who was the Kuldevi of Devchand. Once, Ashapura came into his dream and said to build a temple in the land of Kutch. however, there was a condition that once the temple was built, Devchand should close the doors of the temple for six months. During these six months, Maa Ashapura would appear from the earth. Devchand built the temple and closed the door as per the condition. After 5 months had passed, some sounds were coming out from the temple which excited Devchand in opened the door for the darshan of Mata. However, he soon realizes his mistake that one month was still left therefore he bows down to Mata and asks for forgiveness. As a result, the murti or statue of the Maa Ashapura is incomplete.
